Life and Death

Thanking God that I have many friends in my life,
Mike and I at the gym today talking about how blessed we both are,
Both of us have had long beautiful lives,
Have had close friends and people in our lives,
That are no longer with us, are dead and gone;
But yet, we get to live another day, and witness another beautiful dawn.

So many buddies from school at Holy Cross,
David gone from cancer; Mando from Covid; Ronnie, falling off the roof, different things that cut their lives short,
Yet again, thinking why are they dead, and we’re still here?
The Almighty’s plan for us?
So, are we to die soon, or continue to thrive?
Only God knows,
Discussing a subject today with Mike that cuts like a knife,
But thanking God, for we would still rather be here, alive,
Than in the afterlife.

Thanks for your friendship, Mike
Thank God, we’re still here, and Amen to that!
Godspeed to all our old buddies that are gone!

  1. I’ve Always pondered on the subject and wondered how come not many of my friends and relatives don’t even think about it. I’ve concluded,
There must be a lack of encephalic mass in most people.
Or perhaps they just simply take a hedonistic approach. Come hear the music play old chum, life is a cabaret. ie. Enjoy life and don’t think about it. (See the lyrics of the song Cabaret).
I once was in a very sad sudden death funeral of a very young friend of ours.
My wife saw me scribbling on a piece of paper and her first thought was frowning at me for being disrespectful!
When we started walking out, I handed over my paper. It was a simple little poem I had written. It read as follows:

    Farewell my friend,
It’s sad to see you leave.
    There is so much,
We didn’t get to say or do.
    But then again
    There is more time
    Than life.
    We will meet again,
    And do the things,
We didn’t get to say or do.
……my wife and friends loved it!
    Farewell young friend,
We are sad to see you leave.

ie. Same way it started, except it now mentions YOUNG FRIEND.
It fits the death of a YOUNG FRIEND.
I have becomed to lazy to get back to this writing. I have thought about mentioning God and making it more religious, but I don’t get to it.
I believe in God, and I pray and thank God every night and every morning, but I don’t believe in religion. If that is possible.

    My friend’s relatives loved it.
    Hope you like it too.
