My Friend, David

David was born as one of a set of triplets, very unique at the time.
I never knew who was the oldest, but assumed David was,
For he always looked after his brothers, Johnny & Victor, with great care, and much pride.
I spent 4 years with them at Holy Cross, learning about life’s challenges and such.
Another good memory is of David at our school dances with his special sweetheart, Deanna, who was always there at his side.

Even though one of three,
David was one of a kind at school.
A born leader, always the life of the party & dances, and of course, President of our senior class,
He truly was one of a kind, with his unique wit, and that contagious smile,
A real gentleman, who treated everyone equally & fairly, in his own style.

Now when you are with your classmates for four years,
Day in and day out, you get close to some.
Well everyone in our class was close to David,
They saw him as our leader, our rock, who cared about his fellow man,
Our go-to guy, at Holy Cross High.

Knowing David as I had in school,
I knew he would go on and excel in life,
In whatever he’d put his mind to do.
I learned later that he excelled, and got many accolades in the Air Force,
Retiring after 20 years, as a Master Sargent, with a whole lot of ribbons, of course.

After moving back to San Antonio from my career’s travels,
Reacquainting myself with David and Deanna & learning they had a big family,
With beautiful children, and 13 Grandchildren,
I realized that they have been both blessed beyond their wildest dreams.
What a beautiful legacy David left for his family, for God has blessed him tenfold,
For a life truly well lived, for the man with the heart of gold.

Until we meet again, one glorious day, Brother!

Your old Friend,
Bob Collazo, 6/18/23

  1. It’s nice that you put down your thoughts like this. Sorry that David has passed but like you said, he lived an amazing life and left his legacy and that’s something we all strive for and hope to achieve.

    Your neighbor and friend, Danny.
